Phase One XT and Cambo WRS M645 Lens Adapter Available For Pre-Order!

Do you have a Phase One XT or Cambo WRS camera and want to expand your range of lenses? The Cambo WRS-M645 Adapter is now available for purchase, and enables you to use any Schneider-Kreuznach Blue Ring, Phase One AF/MF, or Mamiya 645 lens (as well as any custom lens with an “M645-mount” fitting) on your field or tech camera!

As with most adapters, there are functional limitations:

    • Usage is limited to the rolling electronic shutter
    • There is no integrated electronic aperture control, but read on for DT’s method of getting around this
    • The XT will not track movements or record lens information when using the adapter

To use your M-mount lenses without manual aperture rings, you will need a Mamiya or Phase One body (any body with a Mamiya 645 M-mount will do, XF, DF, AF-D, etc.) with a stop-down button. To set your aperture:

    1. Attach your M-mount lens to your camera body

    2. Power on the camera

    3. Set the aperture to the desired value with the dials on the body as you would normally

    4. Hold down the depth-of-field preview/stop-down button, by default to the right side of the lens between the lens and the grip. You will need to attach a digital back in order to activate the stop-down feature in most cases.

    5. Keeping the button depressed, power the camera down with the appropriate button, dial, or switch, or simply eject the battery. The lens will remain stopped down at the chosen aperture.

    6. You can now use your lens on the adapter, fixed at the set aperture. In order to change the aperture, you will need to repeat the process on the M-mount camera body.

In our thorough testing, we’ve determined that the adapter functions with each and every Blue Ring lens (including zoom lenses), and even works with the teleconverter! We’ve also compiled a list of approximate movements supported and size of usable image circles for most lenses. Please keep in mind that these are only guidelines, not official scientific measurements, and only take into account hard vignetting (the end of the image circle), so there is no guarantee image quality will be ideal when shifted. With those caveats, see the details in the table below:

Lens

Max diag shift in mm (you can go +/- this amount in x and y and stay in the circle)

Max single-axis shift in mm (you can go +/- this amount in x only or y only and stay in the circle)
